Battery UPS
Batteries are the main part of any UPS that are used to provide a backup or replaceable power source when a power outage or when the voltage is exceeded. |
The battery may be installed inside UPS cabinets, in separate cabinets or inside the Rack. The proper location for batteries depends on the site’s environmental conditions and location restrictions, as well as the two factors of battery capacity and back-up time required.
What is a Battery? Battery is an electrical device for storing energy found in various shapes, dimensions, voltages and capacities. The following image shows a battery cell.
When two substances (usually “two different metals”) are immersed in a solution (electrolyte), the current flows between the two electrodes and creates an electric potential. For example, lead acid, nickel-cadmium, lithium and silver alkaline are some of these substances.
In most cases, lead-acid batteries are used for UPS. Click here to read more about lead-acid batteries. |
